We completed the pig area this morning and the pigs are so happy. We read an article that they will develop more muscle and their meat will be better if they get to exercise. If they just are in a small area, they will get fat and have more fat than meat. Weight does not equal fat. We are not trying to fatten our pigs, we are trying to have them put on good weight. We could almost see them smile as they ran to their new area.
Our company canceled and my Rustic Pear tart did not work out so I cannot share the recipe. I have made it several times but I cannot find my recipe so if you have one that works well, please share. I am sure it will be good, I just had to put a crust on the top like a pie because the bottom crust just broke up so badly. You know that all things do not work out all the time.
Tonight, it will be 7 degrees. We have our home so warm and toasty with our fireplace insert that we could not be more thrilled. We will cause the faucets to drip a little through the night and Jim has turned on the small heater in the well house so hopefully that will keep everything good there. We are not separating the Missie and her calf because we want them to be together in the loafing shed keeping each other warm. WE know that animals have lived through cold through the centuries but these animals have a home and we have stewardship over them, therefore they get to be warm.
Our neighbor brought over two loads of wood today and five pallets he does not need any more. Super nice neighbor. It reminds me of our neighbors when we lived on our first homestead in Beryl Utah. We have no videos, just pictures because we were not doing our YouTube channel yet. Our neighbors here were spread 20 miles across the valley and we were close as friends and we shared everything with each other. We had one set of friends, names the Four Country Gals. Three friends and one of their mothers. Together they ran a farm, sold vegetables, raised sheep and rabbits and chickens and were so kind and generous. Thanks to Facebook, we still keep in touch. Anyway, country friends are wonderful.
Nutritional Information
If you have a thyroid problem, nutrition is vital. Here are some suggestions to help improve your thyroid health.
Eat 4 cups of vegetables a day. Eat a variety but there are several that can inhibit the thyroid so eat them more sparingly. The are cabbage, spinach, rutabaga, broccoli, cauliflower and turnips.
Eat at least 20 grams, which is 3-4 ounces, of lean meat, poultry, fish or other protein per meal.
Eat at least 2 tablespoons per day of good oils in foods such as avocado, nuts and seeds, extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil and butter.
Moderation in carbohydrates. Four servings of fruit or starchy vegetables per day.
Avoid soy – Just 2 tablespoons of soy milk can suppress the thyroid function and lower your metabolic rate.
You may need to avoid gluten.
Many people I know that are my YouTube friends have Hashimoto’s autoimmune thyroiditis. HAIT. This is when the thyroid is attacking the immune system. You will need to eliminate any food from your diet that causes allergic reactions. Wheat and other gluten containing grains are specifically known to cause thyroiditis.
I had forgotten about what foods effect the thyroid. Thanks for the reminder.
I really enjoy reading your blog.
