High Blood Pressure

There are many causes of high blood pressure. When this article refers to insulin, cortisol, adrenaline all of these are increased by the food we eat, namely too many carbohydrates, the stressful high paced lifestyle we live and the lack of sleep we get.

The pancreas secretes a high level of insulin in response to a high carbohydrate meal. Years of high insulin levels increase your blood pressure. Continual high stress causes the pituitary gland to signal the adrenal glands to overproduce cortisol. Increased cortisol raises blood pressure. The fast paced American lifestyle causes a high cortisol lifestyle which increases blood pressure and a long list of other symptoms.

Salt-sensitive blood pressure is caused from high insulin/high cortisol and/or low adrenaline.

Caffeine raises blood pressure.

Sleep deprivation causes high blood pressure.

One of the symptoms of Insulin Resistance is high blood pressure. See the causes of Insulin Resistance. The high insulin acts on blood vessels causing smooth muscle cells that surround each blood vessel to grow more rapidly than normal. This tightens the artery walls and promotes high blood pressure.
